There are a number of superlative organizations offering literature, articles, advice, and tips on how to control and conquer anxiety and panic attacks.  In addition to support groups, there are non-profit organizations that are also offering a wealth of information on the condition and its proper treatment.

Non-Profit Organizations

Non-profit groups offer a lot of information on anxiety and some of the latest research related to the condition.  Such organizations focus on educating the public about anxiety and panic related issues and in offering comprehensive information about the condition.

The three main non-profit organizations to turn to include:

  • The American Psychological Association: Offers up-to-the-minute press releases, information about books, videos, and journals.  In addition, an individual can get information related to finding a counseling service, and some basic facts and statistics regarding anxiety.

  • The Anxiety Disorders Association of America:  This organization offers help with panic attacks via information on finding a therapist, details about clinical trials, self tests, and a listing of available support groups for anxiety.

  • The National Alliance on Mental Illness: This site offers information about anxiety and panic related disorders, statistics, facts, information about mental health services, discussion forums, and more.

Support Groups

Support groups via email and forums online are available for help with panic attacks and anxiety too.  Free forums are available where an individual can create an account online and begin answering questions and posting questions related to anxiety.

Some groups hold weekly or monthly meetings as well, where an individual can attend such meetings and talk about techniques for panic attack management.

Immediate Family Members and Friends

Sometimes a person’s best assistance can be found close to home; it is often easy to find family members and friends that can help with panic attacks.  If family members and friends are advised of one’s condition, during the onset of a panic attack, they can help the individual become more relaxed, can provide encouragement, and can also lead the individual to a location where the individual can work on calming down and forcing the panic attack to subside.

If privacy is a concern, letting just one friend know about panic attacks can be enough to prove helpful; during a panic attack the individual can reach out for help and contact that friend for support and guidance.
